What is the Best Flooring for a Bathroom?

Laminate Flooring

Laminate Flooring is a popular choice when it comes to laying a floor in your bathroom. This is thanks to a wide variety of brands offering flooring that has a water-resistant surface and core. With brands such as Hydro, Aquastep and Aqua Pearl offering an excellent choice of style and design, it’s easy to see why laminate has become more popular over the years.

However, with growing technologies, Laminate Flooring does have a limit to the amount of time for surface water from 24, 48 & 72 hours so it’s important to make sure you clean up any water which may lay on the surface.

Engineered Wood Flooring

Wood is becoming a popular choice for bathrooms as it adds a natural warmth to the room. However, we know that wood and moisture isn’t always a good combination but this is where engineered wood flooring is different. Thanks to its layered plywood design, Engineered Wood Flooring holds up well against moisture and is more dimensionally stable in comparison to other hardwood flooring. Make sure you read all the descriptions and technical detail and choose your Engineered Wood Flooring with caution.

Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl Flooring has been around for decades and has always been a popular choice thanks to its water-resistant material. There are two types of vinyl flooring to choose from, you can choose the classic rolled Vinyl Sheet Flooring, one of the most common flooring surfaces for the bathroom or the more modern Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring which has increased in popularity thanks to the introduction of new technologies such as “Flex LVT” and “Rigid Core”.  LVT is incredibly easy to fit and you don’t need to prepare the subfloor before laying like you will need to do with Vinyl Sheet Flooring.

Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic Tiles have been available for decades and are considered one of the most stylish waterproof floorings available. However, they can become quite cold underfoot and can are also sometimes slippery when wet. If you do consider Ceramic Tiles, consider placing a bathmat on to the floor to avoid injury and the shock of the cold.

Flooring to Avoid in Your Bathroom

When considering flooring it is important to know what flooring not to have in your bathroom. You might think when you step out of the shower having something soft and fluffy underneath might be ideal, but carpet sadly retains moisture which will leave your bathroom smelling like damp and the only way to remove this smell is by removing the carpet.

Secondly, Solid Hardwood is a bad option for bathrooms as it has zero resistance to moisture and even the smallest amount of water could cause it to rot, misshapen or smell. Again, the only way to remove this would be to tear out the floor causing you additional heartache and cost.

The Makeover Centre has a wide variety of bathroom flooring to choose from so you can be reassured that you are buying a top-quality product.
